ancient people
I’m attempting to break my list of famous personages down into smaller blocks, as it is getting quite overwhelming all together. This section lists those individuals who may be considered “ancient.” For my purposes this will include individuals price to 1,000 A.D.
- Alexander the Great.
- Anaximander.
- Aristotle (2).
- Augustine of Hippo.
- Julius Caesar.
- Caligula.
- Cicero.
- Claudius.
- Confucius.
- Constantine the Great.
- Epictetus.
- St. Francis of Assisi – One of the best known of all the Catholic saints, St. Francis founded the Franciscan Order which grew exponentially during his own lifetime and included vows of poverty. He ministered to the poor, attempted to evangelize Muslims, and had a high respect for all of God’s creation – allegedly even preaching to animals. He is known for his hymn “All Creatures of Our God and King”, was the first individual to receive the stigmata, and had several visions which inspired various aspects of his life.
- Hippocrates.
- Ignatius of Loyola (3).
- Maimonides
- Pythagoras (3).
- Socrates (2).
- St. Jerome (4).
